Omron Demonstrates NEW Piezo Resistive Pressure Sensor technology at Sensors Expo 2012
Sensor Product Manager and Assistant Medical Market Manager, Ms. Donna Sandfox, demonstrates and speaks about the SOON TO BE RELEASED 2SMPP-02 sensor. Expanding on their Piezo Resistive Pressure Sensor technology, a MEMS Absolute Pressure Sensor is nearing completion. Able to detect changes in elevation at a resolution less than 1 vertical meter, it could be used, for instance, to determine what floor of an office building a person is on. With an operating pressure of 50 to 110 kPa, target applications for this product include enhancement of GPS Navigation, Portable Navigation Devices, Weather Forecasting Equipment, and Vertical Velocity Indication.
Omron Electronic Components Demonstrates NEW D6FPH MEMS Mass Flow Sensor at Sensors Expo 2012
Sensor Product Manager and Assistant Medical Market Manager, Ms. Donna Sandfox, demonstrates and speaks of the NEW D6F-PH MEMS Mass Flow Sensor from Omron Electronic Components at the 2012 Sensors Expo in Chicago. The sensor uses the Omron mass flow MEMS Chip, and will have the same external structure as their highly acclaimed D6F-P0010A1. However, the internal flow path has been redesigned to produce a low flow (70 mL/min), high impedance sensor with a differential pressure range of 0-250 Pa. When used in a bypass type design (or set-up similar to a differential pressure sensor), this product is not sensitive to variations in the bypass tube length. The product is targeted for, but not limited to, the HVAC market, as tubing in HVAC damper controls is often installed in the field, which makes it a challenge to maintain consistent tube lengths.

This product training module offers a succinct, but tremendously informative presentation of Omron's MEMS flow sensor line-up, as well as their superior MEMS technology. - video developed and released by Omron Electronic Components LLC, Americas "The main feature of the MEMS Flow Sensor is its ability to measure flow speed from 1 mm to 40 m/s, which covers the range from the fluttering of a butterfly's wings to the roar of a typhoon. At the heart of the MEMS Flow Sensor, there is a tiny sensor element. That is the MEMS Flow Sensor chip which is only 1.5 mm square. Conventional flow sensors use a resistance measurement method based on a natural characteristic that causes the electrical resistance of a material to change due to changes in temperature. This method has a number of disadvantages, though, such as the high cost required for the extremely time-consuming adjustment of the resistance balance. (See Figure 1.) In contrast, the MEMS Flow Sensor was the industry's first to apply the thermopile method, which uses an element called a thermopile that converts thermal energy into electrical energy. Omron's DC Power Relays: Featuring the G9EN-1
Omron's G9EN-1 DC Power Relays switch non-polarized resistive loads up to 60A, 400 VDC; it achieves a weight reduction of 55% and a cubic volume reduction of 51%, compared to previously released DC Power Relays. Omron's State-of-the-Art D6T MEMS Thermal IR Sensor
High Sensitivity Enables Detection of Stationary Human Presence OMRON's unique MEMS and ASIC technology achieves a high SNR. Superior noise immunity with a digital output. High-precision area temperature detection with low cross-talk field of view characteristics. Omron has developed this new, super-sensitive sensor for non-contact thermal measurement that makes full use of proprietary Omron MEMS sensing technology. The D6T sensor, operating on infrared radiation sensing principle, is very suitable for human detection. It can detect the presence of people in an area without the need for movement and thus it is an outstanding alternative to pyroelectric sensors or PIR detectors in home automation, building automation, healthcare, security and industrial applications. Most human presence sensors rely on movement, but the D6T is able to detect occupation by sensing body heat and provides a more reliable basis for switching off lighting, air conditioning and other services when the space is empty. Conventional sensors often fail to distinguish between an unoccupied space and a stationary person. As D6T sensors are also able to monitor the temperature of a room, they can also be used to control the level of heating and air conditioning systems and maintain optimal room temperature levels without wasting energy. Unusual changes in temperature can also be used in other ways, for example to detect line stoppages, identify hot spots before a fire breaks out or in clinical applications to check whether a patient has left the bed. While standard thermal sensors are only able to measure temperature at one contact point, the D6T can measure the temperature of an entire area without any contact. Signals generated by infrared rays are extremely weak; so to achieve reliable detection, Omron has developed and manufactured every part of the new, high-sensitivity thermal sensor in-house, from the MEMS sensors to ASICs (application-specific integrated circuits) and other application-specific parts. The technology behind Omron's D6T thermal sensors combines a MEMS micro-mirror structure, for efficient IR radiation detection, with a high-performance silicon lens to focus the infrared rays onto its thermopiles. Proprietary application-specific integrated circuits then make the necessary computations and convert sensor signals into digital I2C outputs. The result is excellent ±1.5 C° accuracy with high noise immunity. Omron aims to contribute and develop state-of-the-art solutions for other new technologies that may implement this new sensor, which enhance people's safety, security and comfort.
